I
always knew that art would be an important part of my life. From
childhood, art has been my focus. Many of my happiest hours have been
spent creating--always bringing great joy and a sense of fulfillment.
Since I work with a variety of materials, I consider myself a
multi-media artist. Earning my Bachelor's degree in Art Education at
S.U.N.Y. New Paltz and a Master's degree in Fine Arts at Adelphi
University provided the means to explore and experiment in diverse
media, eventually honing my interests. Although my strength lies in
two dimensional design, I've been enamored with the art forms of
batik, jewelry design and photography. Earthy, organic elements and
themes run through all of my artwork.,
My first professional endeavor was creating batik wall hangings in
both traditional and sculptural forms. While raising two daughters and
teaching art, I began professionally designing and creating
one-of-a-kind silver and gold jewelry. This became an extremely
rewarding business, with shops and galleries in New York, San
Francisco, New Orleans and Palm Beach representing my work.
More recently, my fascination has been with photographic images.
Creating large scale surrealistic, multi-layered photo collages and
assemblages has led way to my desire to work with a camera.
World travel and spending time outdoors, in the natural world, has
always been a family priority. And now, being retired from a thirty
five year career, teaching art on the elementary through university
level, I have greater freedom to do both. I rarely go anywhere without
my camera!
My careers have greatly enriched my life. Working with students is
tremendously rewarding-- sharing knowledge, ideas and talent. The most
wonderful personal connections develop. Through photography I can
share my visions and work on a different personal level.
The lens of my camera provides me with the chance to see and interpret
the world in my own way. Looking closely and focusing on one small
piece of life at a time, can open up new dimensions. The photographs I
take reflect my ever-evolving sense of wonder. I find the details of
the simplest things are the most evocative and artistically
inspirational. They seem to touch something deep inside and even the
ordinary reveals its magic. What I love most about photography is the
ability to "capture the moment". The subject's pure essence is frozen
in time. That moment conveys its own mood, atmosphere and a singular
beauty.
I am delighted to be able to share what I find visually exciting and
captivating through the medium of digital photography. |
