Color, texture, choice, making something out of nothing, collaborating with someone to create something special: all of these led Libby to mosaics. She has always been drawn to mosaic artwork wherever she went: in churches, buildings, subways, ballparks, bathrooms, on tables and vases. She would wander over to anything with tiny, shiny pieces of tile on them and marvel at them, wondering about the artist who put all the pieces together - what were they thinking about, what was their original design, did they run into problems and how did they handle it?

The most exciting part for Libby is allowing something beautiful to be created from the materials on hand, such as tile, stained glass, plates, shells, fossils, rocks, pebbles, and beads. The direction of each new belt buckle design is never pre-determined; she just sits down and begins to create. The process is stimulating and relaxing at the same time.

Libby has had a life-long creative streak; however, it took until 2006 for her to decide to bring that artistic passion to the forefront. The mosaic medium sparked such a fire in her that she quit her part-time job in order to become a full-time artist. Originally starting with the occasional mosaic belt buckle in order to feed her sister's addiction of unique buckles, the hobby has become a business, with over 150 buckles sold in the past year and displays in stores in Wayland, MA, and Sayville, NY. While the buckles continue to fund her fun and have allowed her to create small studies in design and texture, her artistic goal this year is to create a gallery showing of a series of cohesive works.

Libby grew up in Dallas, Texas (and still considers herself a Texan at heart), although she has lived on Long Island for 26 years. She is married to her college sweetheart, has three children, ages 17, 21 and 23, and two dogs.
